Alex Oliveira injured by a grenade on Christmas Eve

UFC welterweight Alex Oliveira was injured in an incident on Christmas Eve. The news was first reported local Brazilian outlet TV Rio Sul and later confirmed by MMAFighting.com. Oliveira witnessed an altercation which involved his family members, after stopping to investigate a grenade was thrown his direction.

Oliveira spoke about the frightening incident in more detail when speaking to the local outlet.

“One guy came up and pointed a gun at my nephew’s face, and that’s when people started pushing each other,”

“They had machetes, knives, a grenade. They threw a grenade in my direction. Fragments flew to my leg and my foot.”

Oliveira spent time at the emergency room to get some shrapnel removed before being discharged. He went to make a police statement soon after.
