Karl Roberson steps in to fight Glover Teixeira at UFC Brooklyn
Karl Roberson will step in on one week’s notice to fight Glover Teixeira. Glover was originally slated to fight Ion Cutelaba until Ion was dropped from the card for an undisclosed injury.
Karl Roberson is 28 years old and is a rising star in the UFC. He is currently 2-1 inside the UFC, and also has a win on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. He Knocked out Ryan Spann on DWTNCS at light heavyweight. Then once he got into the UFC, he fought his next three fights at middleweight. Submitting Darren Stewart, and getting a unanimous decision win over Jack Marshman. He also suffered a submission loss to Cezar Ferreira via arm triangle.
His opponent Glover Teixeira is a veteran of the UFC, with a record of 10-5 inside the octagon. His most recent fight was a unanimous decision loss to Corey Anderson. Glover is currently 38 years old and although we have seen guys fight way past 38, Glover may be on his last stretch in MMA. His strength in this fight will be his toughness without a doubt. He has only been finished three times in his UFC career all of which by knock out. On the other hand, 5 out of Roberson’s seven wins come by the finish.
Teixeira has way more to lose in this fight, being ranked 12 in the light heavyweight division. Roberson, on the other hand, will be making a return to light heavyweight after three fights at middleweight. UFC Brooklyn will be the first fight in the new year. It will also mark the first fight on ESPN+, the UFC’s new digital platform. This event will take place on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 at the Barclays Center.
