KSW 48: Parnasse vs. Szymanski Review

KSW 48 played host to featherweight prospect Salahdine Parnasse taking another step to becoming one of the worlds best 145 pounders — as the Frenchman took care of Roman Szymanski to win the promotions interim featherweight title.

The undefeated Parnasse, who is still only 21-years-old, came into this bout with a lot of hype to carry on his young shoulders — hype that he handled ever so well.

The Frenchman never looked in doubt as he took to the cage and began teeing off on his opponent. Parnasse produced a striking show for the fans gathered in Lublin, Poland, and looked like he was delivering his shots with a little more venom than usual.

As the fight got into the second round, Parnasse could smell blood, and it was only a matter of time before his hand was raised as he pounced on Szymanski on the ground. The Frenchman poured a flurry of ground and pound onto his opponent, and at one point looked at the referee as if he was encouraging him to stop the fight.

With yet another promising showing, Parnasse secured the gold around his waist, and may have perhaps set up a fight of the year contender against the reigning champ, and also undefeated, Mateusz Gamrot.

In the co-main event, Lukasz Jurkowski faced an old foe in Stjepan Bekavac, who has a win over Jurkowski from 14 years ago. As fate would have it, Jurkowski avenged his loss with a victory due to an injury to his opponent — the same way Bekavac defeated Jurkowski in their first bout.

With Bekavac seemingly blowing out his knee during the contest, Jurkowski finished off the fight with heavy ground and pound, and later suggested on his Instagram that the two should run it back for the third time, at full health, in order to determine the ultimate winner.

The lone decision of the electric fight night in Lublin took place in the lightweight division, as Marian Ziolkowski upset Gracjan Szadzinski, who was within reaching distance of receiving a title shot.

Ziolkowski demonstrated some precise striking, dropping Szadzinski in rounds one and two. “Golden Boy” also landed a brutal elbow in the first round as he cruised to a dominant unanimous decision victory.

Elsewhere on the main card, Croatia’s Filip Pejic stood out in his KSW debut, as he put away Filip Wolanski with a TKO in round two.

Pejic was landing viscious strikes throughout the bout, including kicks that even his compatriot Mirko Cro Cop would have been proud of. The damage of the kicks became too much for Wolanski to handle midway through the second round, and Pejic stopped the fight after repeatedly connecting to the head and body — before finishing his opponent off on the ground.
