KSW 50 Results
Phil de Fries ground Luis Henrique into a 5-round decision victory in the main-event of KSW 50. The home fighter de Fries looked like his vintage self, moving glacially forward, landing heavy hands, and punishing Henrique against the fence. Although the fight was separated a few times for lack of action, this was a classic de Fries affair, and we expected nothing less. It was clinical, albeit one-sided. Henrique took the fight on short-notice, and did land a few nice kicks off the clinch breaks, and threatened a submission in the early rounds. It was certainly a heavyweight fight, and the champion’s pawing, animal-like pursuit was just too much for the Brazilian.
In the co-main event, reigning light-heavyweight champion, Tomasz Narkun, coming off an unsuccessful venture to capture the heavyweight title from de Fries, submitted Przemyslaw Mysiala with a guillotine choke after dropping him with a left hand. Narkun looked tremendous, and should certainly stick at light-heavyweight for his next fights.
Elsewhere, the interim lightweight belt was captured by Norman Parke after an excellent fight against Marcin Wrzosek — and welterweight champion Roberto Soldic won a closer-than-comfortable decision against a very talented Michal Pietrzak.
Violence, controversy, a KSW pioneer’s retirement, and heavyweight weirdness rounded out KSW 50, and the event delivered more or less what we came to expect.
