Mick’s Picks: UFC Fight Island 1 Betting Preview

G’day folks. We are back for the second edition of fight island with a mid-week card with some exciting European talent along with some returning potential stars. The main event is a potential title eliminator between two rising stars in Kattar and Ige. I’m oing to be short and sweet with predictions this weekend as I think some great bets available on this card.

Molly McCann v Taila Santos

Straight off bat here, I think Santos is nowhere near UFC level.

Before her DWTNCS fight, which she came into it 14 and zip, undefeated, her opponents combined records were 26 wins and 63 losses. She’s a regional scene can crusher. Seven of her past opponents have never won a fight. Borella beat her on her UFC debut when that was a fight that, in my opinion, the UFC gave her to win convincingly and she wasn’t up to it.

Step forward Molly McCann, who has been making huge strides since the Gillian Robertson defeat.  Her physical appearance has changed, she looks in her best shape yet. But greater improvement can be seen in her wrestling, stand-up and ground game. If Borella can hold Santos down, McCann is going to have an easy assignment here.

I’m confident that Molly McCann takes the W here and with a great price on offer from the bookies.

Selection: Molly McCann ML $1.90 10/11

Abdul Razak Alhassan v Mounir Lazzez

I a huge Alhassan fan. I was very happy to see him found not guilty of his charges and thereby able to resume his MMA career. The dude is a dead set killer with the touch of death in his hands. He made light work of Nicko Price on his most recent appearance and I think he has a lot of built-up aggression to get out here. I’m expecting a possible 50k KO here. Lazzez is no slouch and packs a good punch himself but I think he potential has got a raw deal for his UFC debut here. Will be keen to look at him getting an easier assignment later.

I think Al Hassan goes out and throws leather and finishes this early.

Selection: Razak Alhassan KO R1 $2 EVENS

Jack Shore v Aaron Phillips

From what tape I’ve watched I think this will be light work for “Tank” Shore.

His ground game and takedowns will be key to victory in my opinion. I think he shoots early and Phillips takedown defence is average at best. Id fancy Shore to transition to a choke and submit Phillips. Phillips will need to keep this standing to have a chance but I think Shore has the IQ to stuff him and take this to where ever he wants. No value in Shore money line but happy to have a go on him to win by submission.

Selection: Jack Shore Submission $2

Chris Fishgold v Jared Gordon

While I’m not too high on either of these guys, I am keen that this evokes into a firefight. Fishgold has cardio issues in my opinion and needs to get to business early or I think Gordon will finish him. Gordon has chin issues and if Fishgold can land I think he sleeps him. Fishgold should have an advantage on the mat should it get there but we’ve not seen much of his BJJ in his UFC career.

While he did submit Teymur that fight was ugly for periods before that. Gordon chin is shot and is a huge liability but he’s a crafty vet and if Fishgold starts to fade I can see Gordon getting a finish.

Going to play Fight to end in KO as my bet as well as the under 2.5 rounds

Selection: Fight Ends in KO $3.50 5/2
Under 2.5 $1.66 4/6

That’s all from me this week folks, hopefully I’ll be back for the weekend’s card and we get a mid-week fill up!
