Mick’s Picks: UFC Vegas 3 Betting Preview

The UFC returns this week with another show from the Apex centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A very good card on paper with some intriguing matchups. Potential rankings up for grabs in a few of the fights and always good to see some vets taking on the up and comers.
As usual, I’m keen on some at some decent odds this week so let’s hope we win some coin!
Belal Muhammad v Lyman Good

Keen on Belal here. Feel that he presses the action and lands the better shots on the feet. Think Good probably has the bigger power but think Belal can be more clinical. Also when it hits the floor and it will, you’ve got to favour Muhammad’s ground game. Belal has come back very well from the Geoff Neal defeat, looks to a bit more clinical and bit more urgency in his game.
Good didn’t impress me last time out against Rencountre. Thought it was a slow affair that suited his game plan. Was a good win from him but the fight was fought in his favour. I fancy Belal Muhammad to lead the dance here and win the standing battle, use takedowns and dominate on the floor. Quite happy with the drift in price too. Good always a danger with his power but I’m leaning towards Belal here.
Selection: Belal Muhammad $1.82
Roxanne Modafferi v Lauren Murphy
Thought Roxanne would be a more dominant favourite here. Her last two wins have been best of her career, beating Antonina Shevchenko and Maycee Barber. While Murphy is coming off a win herself on the books, let’s be honest she didn’t beat Andrea Lee. She did have a good victory over Borella before that so. Murphy would appear to have the edge in the striking but I’m not sold that she can keep it that way. I think Roxanne gets the takedowns and wins round via top control and ground and pound. Looking at the recent form I think Roxanne has been a resurgence of late, showing good cardiovascular, fight IQ and all-round improvements in her MMA game.
I think Roxanne wins this fight 30-27 or at least a 29-28 with some solid clinch and groundwork.
Selection: Roxanne Modafferi $1.88
Austin Hubbard v Max Rohskopf
Immediate thoughts on this went back to Hubbard’s last fight when he fought a similar like an opponent, Mark O Madsen. Madsen dominated that fight for two round before gassing hard and limping over the finish line in round 3. The relevance this has to this week is that Rohskopf is a hard-nosed wrestler but with very good BJJ
I think Rohskopf has the wrestling to dominate Hubbard for at least 2 of the 3 rounds. Plus I think he has the ground game to work a finish. He’s still raw in his MMA career but even if he runs that gas tank dry inside two rounds, I don’t see Hubbard be able to capitalise to finish the fight. Happy to play Rohskopf money line and small by submission.
Selection: Rohskopf ML $1.60
Wins by Submission $3
Oscar Piechota v Marc-Andre Barriault
Not going to delve into this too much buy for me Piechota is round one submission or he gets finished. To be honest I don’t think either is UFC calibre and loser probably gets cut.
Barriault is much but does throw with some heat. He could easily for come to Piechota’s ground game early or I think he can finish Piechota’s gassing corpse in round two or three.
Selection: Fight Doesn’t go to Decision $1.44
Shane Burgos v Josh Emmett
Oh boy, this has potential. I’m a big Hurricane Shane fan. I think once he irons out some of his faults he can be a legit title challenger. I’m a Josh Emmett fan too though, that man snatches bodies with his hooks. I think that Emmett is a knockout or bust here. He has a 100% knockdown rate in UFC and Burgos does tend to lead with hands down and chin high.
I think Burgos can withstand the power shots of Emmett and can pick him apart with his slick stand up. Wouldn’t rule Burgos giving Emmet trouble on the ground either if the fight heads that way. Ultimately I think Burgos can avoid/withstand the power of Emmet and either points his way to victory and score a finish of his own.
Selection: Shane Burgos $1.75
