On the rise: Ian Garry
On the rise is MMA Latest’s series of articles which takes a look at fighters with 5 fights or less who are major prospects and have the potential to go far in the sport. Be it in the UFC, Bellator, ONE Championship, KSW or any other major promotion, this does not focus in on one specific promotion as an end goal and looks at fighters across the globe.
For part two of the series, we’re looking at Ireland’s up and coming star Welterweight star Ian Garry (1-0). Garry is 21 years of age and made his pro debut at Cage Warriors 101 against fellow Irish prospect James Sheehan. The fight went the distance but the Team KF fighter used his quality striking to good use, punishing his opponent and dominating the fight to get the nod at the decision.
The overall ability of Garry was shown in that fight and things were clearly promising for the young fighter. He showed maturity in his performance and stayed relaxed, listening to his corner effectively to showcase a seriously impressive debut.
Training alongside Dylan Tuke and current Cage Warriors Middleweight champion James Webb, Garry has got a high-quality team around him to go far in the sport. After earning a contract with Cage Warriors a run at their 170lb division is certainly on the cards before looking elsewhere. His next fight will be at Cage Warriors 106 against Tayo Odunjo, a 2-0 prospect looking to make a name for himself in Cage Warriors too.
Although Garry is early into his career, the future looks bright and considering his team have already produced a Cage Warriors champion, he may follow suit in due course.
