Spanish prospect, Darwin Rodriguez set to defend his belt at AFL 19
Darwin Rodriguez (6-4), is one of Spain’s brightest stars right now. The prospect is on a tear after a rough start to his career. After going 2-4 in his first 6 fights, he turned things around in this past year winning all 3 of his bouts in 2018 followed by a win in 2019 already as well. At 26, Rodriguez is still relatively young and is a rising star in Spanish MMA. All of his wins to date have come via finish with his last four all being via TKO/KO.
He has already picked up one title as a pro, which he is defending this weekend at AFL 19. His successful title challenge came in 2018 when he finished Ricardo Echarte in the fourth round via punches to claim gold.
This weekend he faces an experienced opponent in Brazilian fighter Amilcar Alves. Alves only got back to winning way last month and is hoping to turn his luck around with another win at AFL 19. Early in his career, Alves was signed to the UFC following a solid run at regional level. However, after two consecutive defeats, he was cut and has struggled to find his old form since. The UFC veteran will be making his AFL debut against Rodriguez.
A win for Rodriguez against UFC veteran could be a massive boost for the young Spaniard’s career. Rodriguez possesses the power to stop his opponents something that will certainly play to his advantage in this one considering Alves’ has been stopped via strikes on numerous occasions now.
