UFC 248 Writer’s Picks

This weekend’s UFC 248 card is truly a big one. The immediate future’s of two divisions will be decided as Middlweight champ Israel Adesanya and Strawweight queen Zhang Weili are both set to defend their belts for the first time against dangerous contenders in Yoel Romero and Joanna Jedrzejczyk respectively.

The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas bound card has all the makings of being one of the top shows of the year, and it is only right to get the MMA Latest staff involved in the fun and see who they predict to be the victors come Saturday night.

Check out our predictions below:

Arion Armeniakos (@ArionArmeniakos)

(C) Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero; Adesanya via Dec

“I think Izzy is just on a tear and will not be stopped. I can see him controlling the distance and picking Romero off from range. With that said, Romero is obviously hard to stop, so I think it’ll have to be a solid five round outing from the reigning champ.”

(C) Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk; Jedrzejczyk via Dec

“Heart says Joanna, mind says Weili. I think if the JJ of old shows up, à la the Waterson fight, she can get it done in 5. Zhang’s power will definitely be a factor, but a JJ on top of her game can handle it and take over the fight.”

Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose; Klose via Dec

Neil Magny vs. Li Jingliang; Magny via Dec

Alex Oliveira vs. Max Griffin; Oliveira via R2 Sub

Jay Farrell (@JayFarrell_1)

(C) Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero; Romero via R4 TKO

“I feel like this is Romero’s last crack at the 185-pound title and I think his wrestling will be more of an option to him this time around.”

(C) Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk; Zhang via R2 TKO

“Weili has looked unstoppable and I think she will be too quick and too strong for JJ. Sadly, I feel like JJ’s days as champion are in the past now.”

Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose; Dariush via UD

Neil Magny vs. Li Jingliang; Magny via SD

Alex Oliveira vs. Max Griffin; Oliveira via R2 Sub

Reece Williams (@ReeceManUFC)

(C) Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero; Adesanya via UD

“Izzy will be too quick for Yoel. But if Yoel can turn it into a war, he has every chance.”

(C) Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk; Zhang via R2 TKO

“Zhang is the hardest puncher in the division and I don’t think Joanna can cope with it. It would have to be a vintage JJ performance for her to win.”

Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose; Dariush via R3 Sub

Neil Magny vs. Li Jingliang; Magny via UD

Alex Oliveira vs. Max Griffin; Oliveira via R2 TKO

Richard Felicetti (@Desid3rata)

(C) Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero; Romero via R3 TKO

“Although Adesanya is certainly the more technical striker, Romero is durable enough to avoid a finish, and over time, will be able to land something of note on the champion. Once that happens, Romero’s killer instinct will be too much to handle.”

(C) Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk; Jedrzejczyk via UD

“While Zhang looked extraordinary in her title winning performance against Andrade, Joanna’s overall body of work is significantly more impressive and I think people are forgetting that. I expect the champ to look ferocious early, but the veteran 115-pound trailblazer will take over late.”

Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose; Klose via UD

Neil Magny vs. Li Jingliang; Magny via UD

Alex Oliveira vs. Max Griffin; Oliveira via UD

Mitchell Ivy (@MitchellIvy_)

(C) Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero; Adesanya via R3 KO

“Romero will pressure Izzy for two rounds but the champ will prevail and show why it’s his era.”

(C) Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk; Jedrzejczyk via Dec

“Joanna will regain her throne with a decision win.”

Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose; Dariush via Dec

Neil Magny vs. Li Jingliang; Jingliang via R2 TKO

Alex Oliveira vs. Max Griffin; Oliveira via Dec
