Pros react to UFC Singapore

UFC Singapore is in the books and we witnessed many great performances. Opening the main card was a pair of Welterweights as Muslim Salikhov squared off against Laureano Staropoli. After a KO win over Nordine Taleb last month at UFC 242, Muslim continued his surge towards the top 15 with a unanimous decision win over Staropoli. Next up was a heavyweight bout between Ciryl Gane and Don’tale Mayes. After a successful debut back in August, Gane was looking to make in 2 in a row in the UFC with a win over Contender Series veteran Mayes. After total domination throughout the action, Cyril sunk in a heel hook and submitted Mayes to make in two in a row.

A pair of Lightweights were on deck as Beneil Dariush faced off against Frank Camacho. The fight didn’t get out of the first round as Dariush made light work of Camacho and submitted him via a Rear Naked Choke just 2:02 into the first round. In the co-main event, Stevie Ray faced the biggest test of his career as he went up against Michael Johnson at lightweight. The first 5 minutes were close but the second period was won by Johnson. The all-important 3rd round was dominated by Ray with him nearly finishing ‘The Menace’ and that last round was enough to give Ray the nod via majority decision.

In the main event, two of the sports best grappler’s faced each other as Demian Maia went up against Ben Askren. Maia was on a 2 fight win streak with wins over Lyman Good and Anthony Rocco Martin. Across the cage was ‘Funky’ Ben Askren who tenure in the UFC was off to a rocky start after a controversial win over Robbie Lawler and a sensational KO loss to Jorge Masvidal after just 5 seconds. As expected the striking advantage was with Maia with Askren keen to initiate the takedown which was stuffed through the first 2 rounds. Halfway through the third, the fight ended up on the ground and after a series of transitions, it was Maia who ended up on top and he eventually sunk in a rear-naked choke and Askren went to sleep as he is now on a 2 fight skid and it remains unclear as to where he goes from here.
