UFC St. Petersburg in tweets
UFC St. Petersburg is in the books, and it proved to be a fantastic night of action.
In the main event of the evening, Alistair Overeem faced off against fellow veteran Aleksei Oleynik. And it was “The Reem” who came out on top landing good knees in the clinch and finishing Oleynik on the ground to get himself a TKO win.
In the co-main event, Islam Makhachev was aiming to extend his winning run to 5 with a victory over debutant Arman Tsarukyan. In what ended up being a Fight of the Night bout, Islam controlled the pace of the fight and saw out an unanimous decision victory to move to (6-1) in the UFC.
Next up, Sergei Pavlovich vs Marcelo Golm in the heavyweight division. Sergei was coming off a KO loss to Alistair Overeem, while Golm was returning after a loss to Arjan Singh Bhullar. The fight lasted just 66 seconds as Pavlovich landed an overhand right and then a flurry of heavy punches which eventually downed Golm and resulted in the fight being stopped. A big win for the Russian contender.
The sole female fight on the card took place next as Roxanne Modafferi was tasked with derailing the hype train that was Antonina Shevchenko at women’s flyweight. Modafferi put on a technical performance as she grinded out a split decision victory over the undefeated Shevchenko.
After a year out and 3 losses on the spin, Krzysztof Jotko was looking to get back into the win column as he went up against UFC debutant Alen Amedovski. Jotko looked as good as he had ever been and dominated the fight to pick up a decision victory.
