UFC Rochester in Tweets
UFC Rochester is in the books and it was a fantastic night of fights. Kicking off the main card was a pair of lightweights as Davi Ramos faced UFC debutant,A Hubbard. Ramos hurt Hubbard with a series of punches in the third but the American stood strong to finish out the 15 minutes. Davi Ramos picked up the win with a unanimous decision victory to move to 4-1 in the UFC. Next up was a trilogy fight also at Lightweight. Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz had fought twice before, in 2011 in which it was ruled a no contest due to an illegal knee by Oliveira. They ran it back in 2015 and ‘Do Bronx’ picked up a submission win in Round 3. Charles Oliveira made it 2 wins against the American as he caught a kick of Lentz’s and landed a straight right which floored him and the fight was stopped. With that win, Oliveira is now on a 5 fight win streak and moves into the top 10 of the lightweight division.
After impressing Dana White in his last fight with LFA, Derrick Krantz was to make his UFC debut on short notice against the 15th ranked welterweight Vicente Luque. Krantz came out swinging and nearly lodged in a neck crank but Luque overcame the pressure from Krantz and eventually dropped Krantz in the first round and the referee stepped in to make it 5 wins in a row for Luque. Former Invicta Featherweight champions faced of as Megan Anderson was looking to make it 2 in a row against debutant Felicia Spencer. The size difference was clear to see from the start but Spencer closed the distance and had Megan’s back. She eventually sunk in a rear naked choke to win her UFC debut and make a statement to the division.
In the new co-main event of the evening, Antonio Carlos Junior went up against Ian Heinisch at middleweight. It was clear to see the gameplan of Carlos Junior as he was looking to close the distance and take Heinisch to the ground. Heinisch put in a career best performance with him often out-wrestling Carlos Junior. After a tricky first round, Ian controlled the remaining 2 rounds and saw out a unanimous decision to earn himself a number next to his name come Monday morning. The main event of the evening saw a welterweight debutant Kevin Lee go up against veteran Rafael Dos Anjos. After 2 losses on the spin, RDA was looking to cement himself in the division’s top 5. Kevin Lee was moving up to 170 after losing a rematch to Al Iaquinta in December 2018 and looked to make a statement against the Brazilian. After a frantic first round, Kevin Lee tired due to the constant pressure by RDA and as the fight went on he was losing the rounds by a bigger margin. In Round 4, Lee went for a level change but failed to hold onto the leg and Dos Anjos pounced and submitted Lee via an arm-triangle choke. That was RDA’s first win since December 2017 and sets up a big fight again later in the year.
