UFC 241 Fighter to watch: Cory Sandhagen

Cory Sandhagen (11-1) will compete at UFC 241 in a massive fight against Raphael Assunacao (27-6). Despite having serious title implications for the bantamweight division this match-up is being overlooked by many.

With such as stacked night of fights fans can almost be forgiven for forgetting about this scrap which goes down on the UFC 241 prelims.

We could see the emergence of a new star at 135lbs this weekend. If you haven’t heard of Cory Sandhagen get to know him here ahead UFC 241.

Cory Sandhagen is just 27-years-old. Once a kick boxer by trade he has transitioned flawlessly into MMA. A fighter capable of finishing on the feet or the mat presenting a problem for all who stand in front of him at 135lbs.

For fans who are yet to see Sandhagen in action he has a dynamic fight style that promises exciting fights whoever he is matched up against. A fight of the night bonus as testament to that statement despite such a short stint inside the UFC octagon.

During his his 4-fight UFC run Sandhagen has looked nothing short of phenomenal. His 4-0 run began with the finishes of Austin Arnett, Iuri Alcantara, and Mario Bautista before the Aurora, Colorado native picked up a career best win at UFC Fort Lauderdale.

Sandhagen earned a split decision victory over heavy handed veteran John Lineker last time out. He’ll look to go one better at UFC 241 by taking out the man who seems to be the guy to beat to earn your title shot at bantamweight, Raphael Assuncao.

Since dropping to 135lbs in 2011 Raphael Assuncao has defeated every man who he has fought. His only losses coming against Marlon Moraes and TJ Dillashaw after previously picking up wins over both men.

The toughest test of his career to date awaits Sandhagen at UFC 241 but potential rewards are bigger than ever with a title shot a very real possiblity for Snadhagen. Speaking to BJ PENN.com he said.

“I hope that they give me a shot at an interim belt with either Sterling or Yan while Cejudo figures out his shoulder injury, or if he’s going back down to 125, or whatever it is he’s doing. That’s my hope. I’m going to push for that as hard as I can but it’s not in my hands”.

If your not already now is the time to jump on the Cory Sandhagen hype train. A win in this UFC 241 fight of the night contender with serious title implications and its a real possibility  Sandhagen is the next challenger at 135lbs.
