UFC San Antonio – Results

A historic night in San Antonio, during which the record for the number of consecutive decisions was broken (9), was capped off by UK’s Leon Edwards taking another step towards title contention in the welterweight division.

Edwards comfortably defeated UFC veteran Rafael dos Anjos, and called out Jorge Masvidal shortly after his impressive performance in “The Lone Star” state. Following the retirement of Michael Bisping, Edwards seems to have taken it upon himself to bring another UFC championship back to England, almost certainly securing himself a huge fight in his next outing.

Elsewhere on the main card, former heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski showed that he is not yet ready to step away from the game with a convincing decision triumph over Ben Rothwell. Arlovski put on a striking show, with quick combinations and slick footwork, proving that he is not going to be a pushover in the division any time soon.

Also in the heavyweight division, Greg Hardy stepped into the Octagon for the third time, this time for a grudge match against Juan Adams, a man who has been calling out for a shot at fighting the former NFL player for the best part of the last two years.  The cage doors had barely been locked before Adams was ready to exit the Octagon, having been stopped by Hardy in 45-seconds following a stuffed single-leg takedown attempt, and a flurry of 30 unanswered punches landing on his head. With that win, Hardy improved to 2-1 in his UFC career.

Lightweight prospect, and San Antonio native, Alexander Hernandez also made his return to the Octagon after the humbling he received from “Cowboy” Cerrone earlier this year, and secured a bounce back decision victory over Francisco Trinaldo in front of the home fans. In what was a bit of a stalemate that could have gone either way, Hernandez managed to get his hand raise and return into the win column.
