UFC 243: “The Reaper” looking to claim another soul
The fight we have all been waiting for is coming up thick and fast — as Robert Whittaker is set to make the walk to defend his Middleweight Championship against the Interim Champion, Isreal Adesanya, on his home soil in Melbourne, Australia. With the sold-out Marvel Stadium filled with 54,000 rowdy fans watching closely, this is a fight that could be a Fight of the Year contender. You won’t want to miss it.
Whittaker is a very accomplished mixed martial artist. With a black belt in Karate, as well as Hapkido, and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it should go without saying he is an extremely well-rounded fighter. If you haven’t seen Whittaker vs. Romero, 1 or 2, I suggest you go ahead and watch those. Or even go back and watch the Brunson or Souza fights. I am sure you will be impressed. Currently, “The Reaper” is on a 9-fight win streak. It is also worth noting that he is undefeated as a Middleweight in the UFC.
Unfortunately, Whittaker flies under most people’s radars, and in my opinion, is one of the most underrated champions in UFC history. He is not much of a trash talker, but what he does in the octagon does all the talking for him. Whittaker is the Champion for a reason. Some of his notable achievements would be:
– Winner of the 2012 Ultimate Fighter
– 2017 Fighter of the Year on multiple platforms
– First Australian Champion
– Fight of the Night 4x
– Performance of the Night 3x
Throughout his professional career, he has accumulated 9 KO’s and 5 Submissions. His fights are never dull, and you can always expect to be surprised.
As I said before, he is the type of fighter to let his fighting do the talking. With that said, there is no doubt Adesanya will bring the fight to the reigning Champ. It will, without a doubt, be a high mountain for Whittaker to climb. Whittaker is quite possibly one of the most well rounded fighters in the UFC, and Adesanya is arguably the best striker in the UFC at the moment. There is no doubt in my mind this fight will have everyone on their feet.
This bout is set to be a war, and when the smoke clears, I am confident “The Reaper” will have claimed another soul.
